Privacy Policy

The short version

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the DevCompass mobile application for iOS and Android, published by [Your name or company] ("we", "us"). It does not cover any website you reach by tapping a link inside the app — see Links to other websites.

Information we collect

We collect nothing. DevCompass has no servers, no accounts and no mechanism for sending your activity to us. All learning content ships inside the app, so browsing paths, reading topics and marking them complete works entirely offline and involves no request to us.

Google, as our advertising provider, does collect information from your device. We do not receive that information in any form that identifies you — only aggregate reports of how many ads were shown and what we earned.

Information stored on your device

The app saves the following locally, using your device's standard app storage. It is not transmitted anywhere, is not backed up to us, and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Stored underWhat it holds
devcompass.progress.v1 Which topics you have marked complete, which paths you have saved, the paths you opened most recently, which sections you have unlocked, and a count of how many times the app has been opened.
devcompass.settings.v1 Your appearance preference — system, light or dark.

You can erase all of it at any time from Settings → Reset all progress inside the app, or by uninstalling DevCompass.

Advertising

DevCompass is free and funded by advertising. We use Google AdMob to show two kinds of ad: an occasional full-screen ad when you open the app, and a rewarded video you can choose to watch to unlock a section of a learning path. Watching a rewarded ad is always optional and always your choice.

What Google receives

To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects information from your device. This typically includes:

This processing is carried out by Google as an independent controller. How Google uses it is governed by the Google Privacy & Terms and Google's AdMob policies.

Your choices about ads

Learning paths link to outside documentation, articles, videos and courses. Opening one loads that site in an in-app browser window. We have no control over those sites and this policy does not apply to them — the privacy policy of the site you visit governs what it collects. Links are provided for reference only; we receive nothing when you follow one.

Permissions the app requests

PermissionWhy
Internet accessRequired to load ads and to open resource links you tap. The learning content itself needs no connection.
VibrationLight haptic feedback when you mark a topic complete.
Advertising ID (Android)Used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK, subject to your consent choices above.

Children

DevCompass is intended for people learning software development and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the advertising SDK, please contact us and we will help you raise it with Google.

Retention and deletion

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side. Everything the app stores lives on your device and is under your control: clear it from Settings → Reset all progress, or remove it entirely by uninstalling the app. Data held by Google in connection with advertising is retained according to Google's own policies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data — for example under the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California. Since we hold no personal data, requests about data collected for advertising should be directed to Google, who acts as the controller for it. We are happy to help you do so.

We do not sell or share personal information, and we never have.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy — a new SDK, a new feature that needs a server — we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes. Please check back occasionally.
